Has the public cloud strategy in your organisation delivered in the way you hoped it would?
71.7% of interviewees reported high levels of satisfaction, indicating that the public cloud strategy has met expectations for the majority of organisations, while 16.3% expressed lower satisfaction. These results highlight the effectiveness of the strategy for most organisations while also identifying areas for improvement.
As the cloud computing landscape continues to evolve, these findings shed light on the overall effectiveness of public cloud strategies in organisations. They also underscore the need for continuous evaluation and refinement to ensure that organisations can fully capitalise on the benefits offered by the public cloud and meet the evolving demands of their digital transformation journeys.

How would you rate your company's capacity to achieve a balance between business operational objectives and embarking on new project initiatives?
55% of the interviewees perceive their company's ability to find a balance between business operational objectives and embarking on new project initiatives as satisfactory. However, 32% of interviewees rated the ability as average, while 13% considered it below average.
Although a considerable portion of respondents are satisfied with their company's capacity to maintain a balance, there is potential for improvement in effectively managing operational objectives alongside new project initiatives.
Are sustainability considerations a factor in your decision-making?
A significant majority (75%) acknowledged the importance of sustainability in their decision-making. This indicates a strong emphasis on sustainability within the decision-making framework. Conversely, 15% of respondents state that sustainability does not play a role in their decision-making.

The poll data, and remarks in the interviews, overall reflect a positive trend towards integrating sustainability considerations into decision-making processes, with a significant majority of respondents acknowledging its importance. Parts of the industry have expressed some scepticism about the reliability and completeness of data currently provided by public cloud providers, making a shift to public cloud purely on the basis of sustainability considerations perhaps questionable. Yet the stated long term need for on premises infrastructure does emphasise the need to address sustainability concerns in hybrid cloud environments. This underscores the potential benefits of adopting super-efficient designs aimed at minimising power consumption and cooling overhead, providing solutions that align with sustainable practices.

How big a concern is "shadow IT" or consumption of cloud resources outside the governance of the IT organisation?
A substantial 80% of respondents expressed this as a major concern, which underscores the significance of the issue. This finding highlights the diverse perspectives and levels of awareness among participants regarding the potential risks associated with unmanaged cloud resource consumption.
Shadow IT often occurs when developers, frustrated with the slow and or rigid in-house IT infrastructure, bypass it entirely, using public clouds agility via a credit card. SoftIron recommends focusing on enhancing the IT organisation's agility in resource delivery to developers, proposing the development of a true private cloud infrastructure as a solution to mitigate the occurrence of "shadow IT." This approach allows IT to offer developers an experience similar to public cloud services, reducing the need for alternative methods and circumventing IT.
Do you have a hybrid-cloud data infrastructure strategy?
A resounding 90% of interviewees have a hybrid-cloud data infrastructure strategy. This, supported by comments in the interviews, suggests that a significant portion of the participants have implemented or are planning to implement a strategy that involves a combination of private and public cloud services for their data infrastructure.
This showcases a prominent adoption of hybrid-cloud data infrastructure strategies, indicating its growing adoption and recognition as a viable approach in effectively managing data across multiple cloud environments and a growing trend towards the utilisation of hybrid cloud as a viable solution.
